Bus Stops
June 01, 2023: Ok, confession time, every generalist stock photographer who has been capturing images for a while starts to find favourites. Sometimes it takes a while and they may not even realise it’s happening until someone mentions it to them. “Hey Dave, how come you have so many shots of ___insert subject here__?” Apart from architecture in general I have one structure that I always seek out and yes its unusual I know but I quite like to photograph bus stops and bus shelters. Almost every local council or shire seems to install a different design and for some of the bigger ones near major stops its clear that there has been some serious architectural involvement. Examples include Railway Square at Central Station in Sydney and Western Sydney Uni, Parramatta Campus. Others like MONA in Tasmania are pure joyful art. And some, like the one at Bendalong on the New South Wales, South Coast are a canvas for local art and artists while still providing shelter from heat and rain.
Yes, they are just a bus stop and they are very functional but I like to think that the better ones serve a greater purpose than just being somewhere to catch a bus.
